Another thing I do not understand

This may be naive, but...

I don't get why W is so hated. Why is he singled out for blame when nearly EVERY politician in DC approved of the Iraq war, and agreed with the conclusions regarding WMD (for one example). Is there any rationality to this hatred? What does it say about our country and our culture?

Thats a tough question. I think alot of it is perception. He does not come across at intelligent sometimes with mispoken words and butchered sentences. Its only a human flaw that alot of people live with, but in his position it shows more. Its unfair to him for sure.

I think he is more of a vessel for pre-existing hate. The right "hated" Clinton (some might say more than he deserved, others would argue that he earned every ounce of it) for 8 years. When W "stole" the 2000 election, he didn't have a chance. (Notice the quote marks... anyone who knows how the electoral college is supposed to work would tell you the 2000 outcome was not only legal, but correct). It's not the mangling of the language--Eisenhower did that, and folks loved him. There is also the unpopular, war, of course. Now, I'm not saying that W is either a Lincoln or a Truman, but both of them saw similar hatred 4 years into their respective wars. Lincoln lived (barely) long enough to see victory, and Truman was hounded out of the 1952 race as a failure, leaving Korea to Ike. But history has been very kind to him. I hope that one day our children will look back with more unbiased eyes at the war on terror, and give W credit for being the first guy to fight back, even if imperfectly.

When I was in a Public Speaking class in school (Chas., SC), one guy spoke about all the terrible things that Bush has supposedly done (which didn't even make any sense... I would question his sources), I felt a little gratified that the other kids in the class were glaring at him as if he had just killed a child. At least in the South there are less Bush-haters. (Although, that was a while ago... the war may have worn on some of those people by now.)
