My basic position on Health Care Reform

We as a society are asking for something for free that is not free.

We want our health care "insurance" to pay for our "routine maintenance" as well.

We do not carry car insurance to cover door dings and oil changes. We carry car insurance to cover us in the event of an accident.

Why do we think "insurance" should pay for well-person care? Why are we so unwilling to pay our own way?

Where I think the system is broken is that everything is funneled through the insurance web. There is no real competition in medicine, and only somewhat in insurance. We have turned insurance into a social program whereby those who pay premiums support those who do not. And since this is not working (working being defined as more and more coverage with no increase in premiums), now we want GOVERNMENT to "fix" it?!? Are you kidding me? Please, ANYONE, show me one single instance of government fixing this sort of problem, on this sort of scale. Please. Just one.

If we continue on this path toward deeper government involvement in ever more aspects of our lives, then we will be yet another republic that did not last beyond 250 years. Check your history...
